New channel, no views? Check these 7 things first
When a new faceless channel gets zero views, the problem is usually not the algorithm. Work through this list in order.
THE SHORT VERSION
- Zero impressions = topic or channel problem. Impressions but no clicks = packaging. Clicks but people leave = the first 30 seconds.
- Give each fix a few uploads before you judge it.
- One niche per channel.
Read your numbers first
In YouTube Studio, check impressions, click-through rate and average view duration for your last videos. Each points to a different fix.
The 7 checks
- Is anyone searching or browsing this topic? If small channels in your niche have no recent outliers, the topic may be too cold.
- Is the channel focused? Mixing unrelated topics confuses both viewers and recommendations.
- Would you click the title? Specific promise, curiosity, no vague words.
- Is the thumbnail readable on a phone? One subject, high contrast, 2–4 words max.
- Does the video start fast? Cut long intros. State the payoff in the first sentences.
- Does the video deliver what the title promised? If not, retention collapses.
- Are you uploading consistently? A few random uploads give YouTube too little to learn from.
When to start over
If a channel has been consistent, the packaging is solid, and it still gets almost no impressions after a few dozen uploads in a proven niche, a fresh channel with a sharper niche is often faster than fixing an old one. Book a channel review before you decide.
Checklist
- Impressions, CTR and view duration checked
- Niche has recent small-channel outliers
- Titles pass the 'would I click it' test
- Intro cut to the essentials
- Fixed upload schedule
