How to start a faceless YouTube channel with AI
The whole path from niche to first upload: what to pick, what to produce, and what to check before you hit publish.
- Pick a niche by data, not by gut feeling: look for small channels with recent outlier videos.
- One channel, one niche, one audience. Don't mix topics.
- Produce with AI, but add something of your own: research, structure, a clear point of view.
- Upload on a fixed rhythm and review every video's first 48 hours before the next one.
1. Choose the niche
A niche works when three things are true at the same time: people are watching it right now, small channels can still break through, and the topic pays enough per view. The fastest signal is an outlier video: a video from a small channel that got many times more views than the channel's usual videos. One outlier can be luck. Several outliers on different small channels in the same topic is a pattern.
Write down for each candidate niche: who watches, what they want to feel or learn, and whether you can produce 30 videos on it without running out of ideas.
2. Set up the channel properly
- A clear name and handle that says what the channel is about.
- Profile picture that is readable at tiny size, banner with the important part in the middle.
- A channel description: first line = the promise, then what viewers get and how often you upload.
- Verify the channel (phone) so you can upload custom thumbnails and longer videos.
3. Build your production line
A typical faceless video has five parts: topic → script → voiceover → visuals → packaging (title and thumbnail). Decide once how each part is made, then repeat it. AI can do a lot of the heavy lifting, but the videos that last add real value: accurate research, a clear structure, a story arc, and a reason to watch until the end.
4. Package before you produce
Write the title and sketch the thumbnail before you make the video. If you can't write a title you would click yourself, the topic isn't strong enough yet.
5. Upload, wait, review
Upload on a fixed schedule. After 48 hours look at three numbers: impressions, click-through rate and average view duration. Low impressions point to the topic or the channel setup, a low click-through rate points to title and thumbnail, a low view duration points to the first 30 seconds of the script.
